Husband Retires

Yes, you heard me right. DH retired. After 31 years in the SC National Guard, he was ready. 25 of those years as his full time job. He was the last Viet Nam vet in his unit and almost the oldest. He was offered and early retirement and took it. He would have aged out in another year. He was ready to go. He said leave it to the young ones. Thing have changed too much in the last few years.

So, last week after getting back from Paducah, we had to go fill out retirement papers on Tuesday. On Wed. we had to get a physical to be released. Thursday was his last day at work. Friday was his retirement lunch with his work buddies. All of this was 45 to 60 miles from home. I was pooped from all the going. LOL

He is working in the shed and yard for the month of May. The he will work at boy scout camp for 5 weeks this summer. He will be teaching rife shooting. Yes, he is NRA certified. Then, we are going to Canada to visit our friend Heather. She has been after us to visit for awhile, so now we can. To beat all he has a job lined up for when we get back. Just kind of walked into it. Go figure. LOL

I will take lots of pictures on our trip to Canada. A trip of a life time.

Paducah

Went to Paducah week before last. Was a little disappointed in a few thing. The quilts were wonderful. Hancocks of P. was not as great as I remembered from 9 years ago. They had lots of Moda, Kaffe, and batiks. That was about it. No discounts on the main floor. The warehouse had yard pieces at a discount, but a lot of the same stuff and not much shirting type fabrics. That said, I did good at Eleanor Burns tent. All of her fabrics were 5.99. I didn't think there were as many vendors as before. But it was not as crowed as before. I did have a good time and of course I bought things. LOL who could resist. I will post some pictures later if time permits.

Cowboy Quilt

Here is a little quilt I am working on for a great nephew. WOW! No grands, but a great nephew. That is ok. I can wait for DS to get out of college and find the right gal. I fussy cut cowboys for the center of the stars. I have red bandanna fabric for the back of this quilt. There again the picture came out a little orange. I have got to read the manual again on

this camera.

Snowman Class

OK, Judy, I know you think I have been goofing off. But I have been working on my snow man. I have the applique finished. YEAH!!! I am working on the checker board boarder. Almost finished with it. another YEAH!! The snowmen don't have eyes and mouths yet because I am going to use buttons after it is quilted. It will be sooo cool. No pun intended, well maybe a little one. LOL

More Strip Twist

I found this wonderful fabric while I was in the mountain. It is printed with 2 1/2 inch stripes of black and white prints. I will not have to sew strips together to make another strip twist. I think it will make a neat ST. Isn't this cool fabric.

Strip Twist

I did make Strip Twist, from Quiltvillechat challenge. Now I can post a picture. I think it turned out great. It is not quilted yet. Customers quilts come first. I made some extra block, so they will go into a charity quilt for our guild. I really like this quilt.

I think this new camera is making all the pictures a little yellow or orange??? I haven't figured it out yet.

I finially did it. I bought a new digital camera. Took some pictures of projects I am working on. Soooo, we are going to see how they come out. LOL

This little thing, because it is not anything yet, is made from 40, 2 1/2 inch strips. I was trying to inmate a jelly roll, sence I didnt have one. These are scraps left over from other projects. Mostly kids quilts. I saw something like this in Florida last summer. It was made from feed sack reproductions. I havent found a pattern, so I made one up. LOL Sew 2 strips together lenthwise, cut in half crosswise and stack on top of each other, matching fabrics. The use a 60 degree ruler or the 60 degree line on your 6 X 12 ruler and cut hexagons. You get 2 blocks out of each set, that are opsite colors. I just love this look. I am going to add another set of 40 to see how big this gets. Right now it is not big enough. If anyone had seen the pattern, please let me know where. I think I might write a toutorial, with pictures, when I make the next set.
