Christmas

We had a good Christmas.  Wayne is feeling a little better.  Chemo gets easier each time.  All children were home or came by.  We went to his brothers for lunch.  It is a cover dish thing and a small group.  We enjoyed the time together.

Happy Quilting and Happy New Year.

Update Cancer

I have not posted in awhile.  Life has gotten in the way of quilting. DH has been sick.  It took about 7 weeks to find out what was wrong.  He has stomach cancer, that is stage 4, and terminal.  This is rare in the US.  After a colonoscopy was ok, we went back to that GI with pain in the abdomen and swelling.  That dr told him to lose weight, walk 5 miles a day and see a heart Dr.  A week later I had DH in the emergency room in the city near by.  They referred us to a GI Dr there.  After 3 visits to the ER and fluid drawn off his belly, they found tumor cells. Five days in the hospital, they found the tumor in his stomach.  They also found blood clots in his lung.  They drew off a total of 7 1/2 liters of fluids from his abdomen.  He now has a catheter in his belly where I draw the fluids off at home..  This has reduced the pain a great deal.  As of today he has had 3 rounds of chemo.  After the next round the Dr will have another upper GI done to see if the chemo is working.  It has reduced the fluid in his belly, but he can't eat anything.  He has lost over 50 lbs.  Please keep us in your prayers.                Happy quilting, Vicki

Cotton Strikes again

I knocked over some cones of longarm thread the other day.  Thought I got them all up.  Guess I didnt.  Cotton, 1 yr old Mini Scnhauzer, found one.  She brought it to me like this, yesterday.  Looks like Cousin It from The Adams Family, with a punk dye job. lol

Celtic Solstice

As you ca see, I am still working on my Celtic Solstice quilt.  On the design wall is 1/4 of the quilt top, without borders.  Decided it was easier to put together in smaller pieces instead of 1 big piece.  As I am making the KING size.  Now I remember why I havent made a king in awhile!!  I am really father along, I have 3 sections made, 2 sewn together and the last in rows.  So, off to sew while the football game it on.  DH is happy, football and hunting are back!!

T-shirt Quilt

I have been lazy about posting lately.  I havent had many quilts to post about.  Finished this t-shirt quilt for a customer 2 weeks ago.  Yep, lazy.  I just let a customer quilt leave the house 10 minutes ago without taking a picture.  No worry, I will see it again soon and get some pictures.  It is custom quilted,  I dont do a lot of custom, so I need the pics.

Gyleen Mystery and baby quilt

Gyleen Mystery
Gyleen Fitzgerald hosted a mystery quilt starting first of June.  Yea, I am finished (with the top) before the end of June.  Which was the goal.  Supposed to make a pieced backing by her method.  So, that will come together in a few days. Maybe!
The wind kicked it up just a little, dont you love Wayne's feet.  LOL  I took another picture, but the color was faded looking.  The sun is just a little too bright to get a great pic. Hope you like it, was fun to make.

BABY QUILT

Baby Quilt for our sons friend.  Arron and his wife had a little boy in May.  He was due in June, so I was running a little late on this one.  William came home for fathers day on Friday.  He only had 24 hours off work.  I only had half the binding sewn.  So, like a good mom, after supper I sat down to finish with the TV on and a movie.  What should happen next.  Thunderstorm, very close.  I almost jumped out of the chair.  Power went off, and here I had this quilt to finish.  We are at the end of the power company so there was no telling when it would come back on.  Wayne (DH) and William (DS) got the oil lamps and candles out.  It wasnt quite enough light (how did our ancestors do it)  I took one of those small led flash lights and propped it up under my chin.  That gave me light directed right where I was sewing.  William played the piano by candle light and we talked.  It was great fun after all.  I do love my family.  Arron got the quilt the next morning as William headed back to Brevard NC he stopped in Columbia to see Arron and gave him the quilt.  The other story is that Aaron and his wife both work at the zoo in Columbia.  I found a cute animal print and the back has penguins on it.  Their favorite.

T-Shirt quilt and Gyleen mystery

T-shirt quilt for graduate.  Word was sent back to me that she loved it.  Hard to tell, but the fabric is a RWB uneven stripe.  Therefore the corner stones to keep from having to match stripes.

Gyleen Fitzgerald is running another mystery quilt.  Yea!!  started Sunday.  I have finally picked out fabrics.  I say finally because I had other things to do before I got to this.  Now to cut and sew.  Here is a picture of the fabrics.  Yes, that is a bright yellow, but it needs to be. The print is the main fabric.  I will follow up with progress pics as I can.

I am Back

Sorry I havent posted in awhile.  Life is crazy.  I tried to post with internet explorer and it wouldnt let me add pictures. So had to go to Google Chrome.  I keep forgetting to do that.

Anyway here is a picture of a quilt I finished in Feb.  Just getting around to taking some pictures.  This first one was started last summer as a mystery from Gyleen Fitzgerald.  You can find the pattern in her new book, "Polygon Affair".  These were fun projects. This looks like the center is appliqued, but it is all pieced.

Next is Garden Path.  I signed up to teach at Quilters of SC retreat this fall.  This will be my class if enough folks sign up.  So, remember to register.  you must be a member of QSC.

Next is an Army quilt for a doctor at Ft Jackson that is retiring.  Her friends got together and had me make this out of her uniforms and patches.  I just love the way this came together. What great friends she has.

And last, but not least is and updated picture of  Cotton.  she is 8 1/2 months old now.  Trouble is her middle name.  She loves to tear paper, any kind of paper.  She tore up a paperback book today.  At least we had read it and it was not a library book.  I love her ears.  We didnt crop them so they are big.  she shows her expressions so much thru her ears. You just have to love her.

Birds of a Feather

Trying to catch up on my blogging.   I have been a bad blogger.

Two weeks ago I went to Birds of a Feather long arm retreat with Joyce, Pat and Margaret. This was located in Virginia Beach, Va.  We had a great time.  I took Statler classes and learned lots.  On the right is a small quilt that Page Johnson quilted using her Statler.  It is amazing.  Her customer used great fabrics, too.  I also took several close ups so you can see the quilting.

The next 2 pictures were Page's other samples from class.  The ring quilt is using point to point designs to quilt. the stack n wack is how to use a block to make and edge to edge design.

Next are quilts from Kim Diamond's class.  This was a great class too.  I learned so much, I will never remember it all.

I know this post is getting long, but there is soo much to share.   Here is the Birds in a Feather quilt. This is their logo.

Jamie Walden was there. He is a great quilter and teacher.  Here is his donation to Birds in a Feather.  It is beautiful, too.  The goose head is thread painted.  the back ground is hand dyed flannel.

Swans everywhere.  This is the local swan. She lives at the hotel.  She begs at this door for food.  I think they feed her from here.  She is beautiful.
I hope you enjoyed the pictures.  Now I have to get back to quilting.  I was selected to teach a class at QSC fall retreat in Oct.  I need to finish the sample for a display in March.  I have a month.  I will make it. I am sewing rows together now, then the borders, only 2, and it will be ready to quilt.  Watch for pictures in March.  I am also sewing the binding on a Gyleen Fitzgerald quilt from this past summer. Will get a picture when I finish.  It is a great quilt, if I must say so myself.  lol

Cotton in the Snow

Here are pictures of Cotton in the Snow.  She would scratch at the snow, then eat it.  Wayne made a snowball and rolled it for her, she chased it and tried to pick it up and it fell apart.  So funny.

Friendship Block

Small Quilt top that I made long time ago.  I quilted it last month and gave as a door prize at our annual quilt party here.  This was  also on my UFO list for this year, so one down, more to go.

The quilt party is fun.  All of the small groups get together once a year in January and have a covered dish lunch (most important), show and tell, talk about the county fair where we have an annual quilt show, and announce the quilter of the year.

Puppys Sharing??

OK, sorry it has been awhile since I posted.  Life has been busy.

Here is a picture of Ranger and Cotton sharing the pillow.  They are chewing on rawhide chewys.  They play most of the time very well.  It has been fun watching Cotton grow.  Check out those ears.  what big ears. LOL

Here is Cotton sleeping with Wayne, watching TV.  She likes to hang her head down.  Reminds me of Snoopy on top of his dog house.
