Scrappy Trip Around the World

Here is my newest quilt. Finished, binding and all. I say that, because I have a king size that I quilted a year ago and still doesn't have the binding on it. This is a scrappy trip around the world. The pattern is free from Bonnie Hunter at http://www.quiltville.com/ Of course the Kilroy holding the quilt is my dear husband. 4 weeks until he shaves and has a haircut. He retired last year, from the military, and said he was growing it for a year. I do love this quilt and may have to make another one. I still have bunches of 2 1/2 strips.
This pile is my next quilt in progress. It will be a Jewel Box. Very scrappy. Lots of making units. Twosies, the 4 patches and half square triangles. The put those together and this is what you get. There are 85 of the. 5 more than I need. Next you put 4 together with half square triangles in the middle, trying to not to let like colors touch. I did get that part finished tonite, but didnt get a picture. Tomorrow, at quilt group, I will lay them out to make the rows. WOW, I am getting close. I need this for a high school graduation gift for my niece, my brothers oldest. Dont worry, she doesnt even know about my blog. I have used up more of those 2 1/2 inch strips. There sure are alot left. Must have rabbits in the box. LOL
On another subject. DH made 2 blue bird boxes this morning and Mrs Blue Bird moved in by 3pm this afternoon, building her nest. Our old box was knocked down and broken in a wind storm. Very sad, because my Mom had made it. But the new birds make up for that.
Happy Quilting, Vicki

I really like this quilt now. It sure was lots of pieces, but fun. And I love the challenge.

Carolina Christmas Mystery

I have been working on Bonnie Hunters Thanksgiving mystery. She used greens, reds, gold and tans. I didnt have many greens, and was not going to buy any, so I changed it to blues. I love it. At first I thought it was going to be too busy, but it is just right. Leave it to Bonnie, she gets it right. I still have to do the border. Bonnie made a pieced border, but I might do a plain border. I will think about it. Maybe a narrow of gold and then red?? I sure dont know tonite. LOL.
MERRY CHRISTMAS,
Vicki

Double Delight

Double Delight is finished. DONE,DONE. Picture of the quilt and the boarder with a unique binding. And I had the perfect backing hiding in the closet. I found this a few years ago for $2 a yard and there was just enough. All fabric came from my stash. YEAH!!!! I quilted it with gold thread. Was going to use brown, but the brown kept breaking, so swapped to gold. I do like it. I also use my Baptist Fan template from Circle Lord and I love the look. Hope you like it too.

Old Tobbaco Road

DONE, DONE!! Yeah. I finished the binding on OTR. This quilt just needs a label. Yes, the quilt is sideways. My friends were holding it up for me to take the picture, so YOU can see it. I really love the binding, so added a detail picture. You can see the backing fabric too. Perfect.
Double Delight is quilted and ready for the binding. Hopefully I will have that in the next day or two. The off to work on Strip Twist, from http://www.quiltville.com/ ,for Supper Bowl Sunday. I was going to use all blues, but decided to go with a bunch of strips I already have cut. Fun and bright prints. We will see what happens. See ya next time.

Double Delight

Step 6 ready to sew. All laid out on the floor. Right next to the dog bed and toys. LOL. I am excited. It looks great. The light pink setting triangles aren't quite that light, I think it is just the carpet underneath. The gold for the narrow boarder. Then???? not enough of the brown or any brown for the outer boarder. I will test my blues and maybe a dark purple?? What do you think. I dont think I will be able to decide until I get there. Maybe I will have this together by tomorrow nite. No more sewing tonite. I am tired after an all afternoon session to get the double nine patches together. And cook supper.
I just love this quilt!!!! LOL
Stay warm everyone it is going to be 7 or 8 here tonite.

Double Delight

Finished step 4. YEAH!!! sorry, no picture tonite. Now to get step 5 finished, then I can start putting the quilt together. I have been thinking about the border. Bonnie used her brown, but it had pink in it. My brown is brown on brown. Plus, I dont have enough for the boarder. I am thinking of a blue or dark purple. I think I might just like the purple, but will not be able to tell until I have the rest of the top together. The kicker is, I vowed to not buy any fabric. Saving money for a trip to Paducah this year.

Today at quilt guild, we had a lesson on adding a small pipping to the binding. I havent put the binding on my OTR, so, I think I will try that this weekend. I can get lime green in without the whole thing being too lime. Wish me luck. LOL

Double Delight

Double Delight. A mystery quilt by Bonnie Hunter at Quiltville.com .
Step one is complete, YEAH!!!! Now on to step 2, more square in a square blocks. Chain piecing has made it easy. These blocks are over sized, so have to be trimmed down. I have a cool ruler made just for trimming up blocks. I won this as a door prize in a Marsha McCloskey class. It has the block size in solid lines and the seam allowances and cross hairs in dashed lines. It works great for squaring this up. You can find it at: http://www.marshamccloskey.com/prectrim6.html
Not affiliated, just like it.
Now, on to step 2.
Happy New Year,
Vicki

Old Tobbaco Road

Old Tobacco Road is quilted. YEAH!!!!
I quilted it lengthwise using a pano called Feather Feather. I used gold thread and left over bobbins that kind of match. Now I need to figure out what fabric to use for the binding. I have a medium brown. Looked ulck. Thinking about one of the brick fabrics. Will have to see how much I have of what. I have plenty of the boarder fabric left, I could use that, if I have to.
Here are pictures of the front and a close up and the back. I found the backing a few years ago on a sale table. It makes me think of tobacco barns, so was perfect for this quilt. I still have 1 2/3 yrs left for the stash.
Two Quilts down and 3 to go for myself. I am getting there.

Old Tobbaco Road

My OTC is coming along. I am working on attaching the flying geese borders. Getting that small inter border has been hard, sence it didnt work out even like Bonnies. Here are pictures before I started the boarder.
