Cotton

Just a picture to bring you up to date on the new puppy.  She is 3 months old now.  This is her favorite way to sleep.   She is a very happy puppy.

Sampler

A customer brought be 24 old quilt blocks.  All hand pieced.  All different sizes, but close to 12 1/2 inches unfinished.  And she wanted a KING size quilt.  I had to make one more block to have enough.  It is the very middle block,  not bad.  It took me quite a while to get this made and finished, but it is done.  Yea!!!  I quilted using a Baptist Fan pano.  I thought that would go with the old fashion blocks, and it did.

Celtic Solstice

A Bonnie Hunter Mystery.  She does a mystery quilt every year starting just after Thanksgiving.  If you are interested click HERE to go to her blog, where the instructions are.   She puts out a new step every Friday. The picture above is my pallet.  I decided to keep the neutral all the same fabric.  Mainly because I didn't have much in the right color.  These bights need a whitish background.  beige would be awful.  Below is step 1.  As you can see I am behind one step.  I should be on step 2.  Well, I am sort of.  One is cut out and 2 is now cut out.  That is half the battle.  Now to find time to sew. LOL

Here is step 2 ready to sew.  Back to when I have the time. Happy Quilting, Vicki

Cotton

Cotton got into my knitting.  I left the basket on the floor Monday nite, so it is my fault.  I am sure she had fun.  It took me several hours to untangle the mess.  I had to cut the yarn in several places.  I had to rip out about 5 rows of knitting, but I salvaged the sock and finished the pair.  The second pic is of the first sock complete.

I wore these Friday and they were so nice and soft.  Cant remember the yarn, but I like it.  I am loosing my yarn shop.  I just hear that the owner of the Hook and Needle in Columbia, SC, is in assisted living and friends will be having a sale and closing the shop for her.  She will be greatly missed.

Longarm Challenge

SC Girls with Longarms issued a challenge to see how we could quilt this quilt.  Two of the girls designed the quilt and we each made our own and quilted our way.  Nine were unveiled this past Sat. Each was different.  We each told what inspired us and how we quilted our piece.  I have a Statler Stitcher, which is a computerized longarm.  I divided the quilt into sections diagonally across the quilt and put a "modern" looking pano in each section.  I stitch n the ditch all of the straight edges.
This one is mine and here are the others.  I cant remember who's is who's.  let me know and I will put your name by your picture.

Cotton

We have a new member of our family.  Her name is Cotton.  She is a mini Schnauzer.  She is all black except for the tips of her rear toes.  She may lighten up, because her father did. I love this nose picture, she is checking out the camera. LOL. We have had Cotton about 10 days.  It took about 5 of those for Ranger to get used to her.  Now they play and wrestle together.  She likes to pounce on Ranger. The name came from driving to get her and home thru lots of cotton fields.

Pursuit of Happiness

Another Gyleen Fitzgerald mystery.  Yes, I got carried away.  LOL.  Basically she was using us as pattern testers for a new book coming out spring of 2014.  My Garden of Eden and 2 into 1 quilts should be in the book.  I did not get Happiness finished in time for pictures.  Life gets in the way, sometimes.  I finally finished the top, so here it is, a wild thing at least!!

I am thinking of adding another hexagon and having it floating.  The background is 2 different stripes cut (or cuss)on the bias and pieced into the quilt.  Lots of starch and pins, but it worked.  I think the picture looks better that the quilt.  Maybe I am just tired of all of those strips at a diagonal??  now to find time to get it quilted.  Customers quilts come first.  Oh My, I have many UFO's that need quilting.  Maybe I can take Jan. off to quilt for me.

County Fair

Our county fair is where we have our quilt show every year.  It was the first week in October.  Here are a few pictures from the fair.  Enjoy!

This is one of my quilts.  I won 2nd place.  This was one of Gyleen Fitzgerald's mysteries this summer.  The name of this one is "Garden of Eden".

This was my quilt.  The Pattern is Sunset.  It was my class from QSC quilt retreat 2012.  The pattern did not have these borders. It just stopped and had a plain border.  After making the continuous  border I can understand why.  This was a challenge.  I won a blue ribbon for this quilt.

This is another Gyleen Fitzgerald mystery.  The name of this one is "2 into 1"  I won a blue ribbon and best use of color for this quilt.  The funny thing, the local newspaper put a picture of my quilt in the paper for winning Best Use of Color, the picture was in black and white.  Go figure???

This is an applique quilt that I quilted for P.T.  She did a great job and won best senior quilt.

Happiness

Another Gyleen Mystery in progress.  Here is the first block.  That is as far as I have gotten.  Not really, I have the center hexies cut and a bunch of the half hexies cut, but I need many more half's.  I am at a stand still.  I pulled a muscle in my upper right arm.  Darn thing has been hurting like ****.  Finally easing off a little this afternoon., but no rotary cutting yet.  Need to let it heal.  Maybe  DH will cut some for me.  Yes, he really would!!!  I have been using the mouse with my left hand, what fun.... brushing teeth left handed....  very interesting.

Patch

For all of my blogger friends.... I have told you many things about Patch, my son's yorkie.  Monday  we had to put him to sleep.  It was time.  He was 13 years and 8 months old.  He quit eating and couldn't stand without wobbling or falling.  The vet was wonderful, he even cried too.  He said Patch had been one of his favorite patients.  We will remember Patch as a wonderful pet.

Two becomes one

Finally working on Gyleen's 3rd mystery quilt this summer.  I am about a month behind.  Lost my Mojo.  But, I have it back, yea!!!  The is called 2 becomes 1.  Here is the first star.  The next step is to make another star with this as the center.  I have this step part done, not enough for pics yet.  Besides the camera has to charge.  The next star points are orange with a different back ground.  Maybe some pics this weekend.  I am in a sewing mood today.  yea!!! Lets hope hubby wants to stay home so I can sew.

Design Wall Monday

NO design wall today.  Because it is the same as last weeks.  Havent worked on the zig zag quilt at all.  Ruff weekend, back hurting and shoulder.  I think the shoulder is a pinched nerve. Ulck!!

Stash report was a no go also, didnt use or by any fabric.

What is going on!!  Patch, our 13 1/2 year old Yorkie has an abscess on his chest.  It looks like a hole in his chest between his legs about the size of a 50 cent piece.  It has drained all weekend.  Got him to the vet 1st thing this morning.  He got an antibiotic shot and spray.   It looks better now, like it is drying up.  Dont know what happened.  I think something bit him, like a spider??  He cant tell us.

Anyway, happy quilting,
Vicki

Design Wall Monday

Monday is not over, yet.  And I promissed some pictures, so here we go.  This is the quilt on my design wall.  It is a zig zag quilt.  I know that is obvious, LOL...  I cut this out after Christmas. I got the pattern from a magazine add.  This pattern is called Chevy Twist Cuddle.  I cant find which magazine.  I redrew it in EQ7 to get the size I wanted, a twin-ish.  The blocks are cut 4 1/2 X 8 1/2 then sewn together.  The lay out is on point, that is why there is a long unfinished section on the diagonal.  All of the white is the same and has stars in red and blues, the blue and red zig zags are different.  I am really liking this one.  Now if I can get the time to finish it....

Last week I went to our state quilt guild's Spring into Summer retreat.(Quilters of SC)  A great time was had by all.  Here is a top I made for a class I was going to teach at our fall retreat, but not enough folks signed up for it, so This top will be a QOV (quilt of Valor), I do believe.  I am loving this one, so it will be hard to give away, but going to a great cause.  Our state guild challenge this year is QOV'S.  We will be passing these out here in SC to our great service personal.

This next quilt is designed by Lynn from our longarm quilting group here in SC.  This is a challenge quilt to see how many different ways we can quilt it.  The idea is for it to be a Modern Quilt.  I am still not sure what that is??  LOL  Wayne is my quilt holder.  He is making faces at me.  Having fun.

Next is a T-Shirt quilt I just finished for a customer.  Her daughter graduates from high school Friday.  This is the first time I didnt use any sashing or other fabric... Turned out kind of nice, if I must say so my self.  LOL  I used the left over pieces of the shirts to make a mock border... really looks good. The back was a fleece throw the customer had.  So, this was also the first time I quilted with fleece.  NOT really fond of it.. when I trimed it for the binding the fleece fuzzed everywhere, I mean everywhere.  I shook it out outside and that didnt get it all off, so I threw it in the drier on no heat for 10 min. and presto... all the fuzys were gone.

This Post is getting long.  I sure have a lot of catching up to do.  Finially here is my Glyeen Fitzgerald mystery quilt.  Finished, well almost, it is on the quilting frame ready for me to get it quilted tomorrow, I hope.  It is called Garden of Eden.  You can find it on her website  http://www.colourfulstitches.com/

I think I am caught up for now.  I am out of new pictures.  I will try not to get so far behind again... you believe that???  I will always get behind.    Cant get spell check to work, please forgive the miss spelling.  I am terriable at speelin........

Design Wall

Ok, I am a day late for Design Wall Monday, Again.  so, it is Tuesday.  Here is a pic of the design wall.

Look familiar... well it is.  Still working on Gyleen's mystery quilt.  I have all of the flowers made and all of the leaves attached, most of the connector triangles made.  The next step is to sew the connectors to the flowers, make them into rows and sew the rows together.  I have 2 weeks before the next step.  Hope to be ready.
There is a little knitting going on here, too.  I started a pair of socks.  Love this yarn.  Will get a picture of sock in progress when there is enough to show.  Two rows dont look like much on the needles.

I am going to link up with Judy at Patchwork Times for Design Wall Monday, even if I am late.  check out others design walls.

Stash Report

Nothing new here.  0 in  and 0 out.  Still working on Gyleen's Mystery and Williams boat seats.

Friday was William's 25 birthday, for those of you that dont know, that is our youngest son.  We went to visit him, took him to lunch and Home Depot.  We gave him our old TV that wasnt too old, a 42 inch hdtv.  He had a 13 inch from before high school.  Then after we left him, we stopped at the PX at Ft Jackson and got us a new TV.  It would have been cheeper to by him a new 32 inch tv.  Trust me on this one.  The new one is 55 inchs.  Wayne is happy.  It is Netflix capable, so you know that is coming soon.

Drove right by JoAnns.  I didnt even want to stop. Good for me.  So the stash report is the same as last week.

Design Wall Monday, opps its Tuesday

I did it again.  I am a day late.  Nothing new there.  I am still working on the mystery quilt from Gyleen Fitzgerald.  This is where I am.  The directions are a little further along.  Hopefully I will catch up soon, but I am not worried about it.

There are pieces to go in the blank spaces left on the design wall.  So, I will work on those and wait for the next set of directions.

I have been quilting for others this past week here are pictures of 2 quilts I finishe for customers.  First is the Burnstain Bear jelly roll quilt.  Check out the back on the right, I quilted this quilt with bears.  Looked great.  This is going to a 3 year old boy, I hope he loves it.

The next quilt was a mystery quilt from several years ago that Barbara finish. I quilted this one with purple thread and a floral design.  You can kind of see it in the backing picture below.  This was a fun quilt to finish for Barbara, too.

That's all for now.  Happy Quilting, Vicki

Opps, forgot to tell you about the DesignWall link up on Mondays.  Check it out at www.patchworktimes.com.  Get inspired.

Stash Report

No new fabric in or out this week.  Been busy with doctor appts and getting my Canada friends quilts ready to go back to Canada.  Barbara's are finished, now on to Heathers.  Barbara is leaving this week, got hers done just in time.  Now to get Heathers quilted, I have until the end of April, so hopefully will get hers finished also.  If she doesnt bring more. LOL.... every week she brings me another one.  She is on a UFO clean up.

I have been sewing, working on those hexie flowers.  The next step came in the mystery. I have 3 flowers to add leaves to, the on to the next part.  I am not telling you until I get a few made and can post a picture.
I got one boat seat covered for my son.  If you dont know, I am recovering boat seats from the 1970's . the fabric was very worn and very ugly, orange and brown plaid.  ULCK... the new fabric is marine vinyl and royal blue.  much nicer.  I am not counting the marine vinyl in my stash, cause it would NEVER be in my stash under normal conditions.  for real.

Design Wall Monday???

OOP!  it is Wednesday.  What happened.  Wayne (DH) was in Fla with the camera.  He went with his son on a school trip.  The son is a high school science teacher and every spring he takes 9th graders to the Keys to swim in the barrier reefs and then to Tampa to Bush Gardens and swimming with the manatees.  So, Wayne took the camera, but no pictures.  Next time I will just keep the camera home.

The design wall is empty, cause I have been sewing those pesky pieces together.  This does not go together well.  But here is where I am.  Now I am down to 8 slices to combine to make a star.  Maybe by next Monday???

And here is a flower from the mystery quilt.  The new step is to add diamonds to the hexies to get leaves on the flowers.  Looks really cool., I am loving it.

I am also working on covering some sailboat cushions for our son.  We have the piping made, yes, Wayne is helping.  He cut out all of the pieces and I am doing most of the sewing.  Tho he did sew some of the piping this morning while I was at the doctors office.  I am proud of him.  He used my Viking D1, which he is afraid of, he did great.  Will get pictures when I have something to take a picture of, like a cushion.

Design Wall Monday

I missed the Stash Report yesterday.  But that is ok because there were no changes, 0 in 0 out.

So here is the design wall.  I am making progress on this quilt. Yea!!  Now to cut the pieces that fill in the background and start putting it together.  Looking good, in my opinion anyway.

On top of this I took up a mystery quilt with Gyleen Fitzgearld from Colorful Stitches, you can find her here.  .http://www.colourfulstitches.com/    We are to make 12 hexie flowers.  Here is a picture of what I have done so far.  Just a clue, these are BIG, cut from a 5 1/2 inch strip, using her Polygon2 Tool.  These are sewn on the machine and are going together soo fast.  I did all of them this afternoon.  I need 12 before the next step is passed out.  I have the rest of this week.

I also made a red, white and blue 9 patch for the nite guild QOV challenge.  We will each make a block every month and take turns putting them into a quilt.  Our goal is 10 QOV's by the end of the Quilters of South Carolina (QSC) challenge next March.  Read about it here  http://www.quiltersofsc.org/

Missing Stash Report

There is no stash report this week... I missed the dead line yesterday.  I was at Hilton Head Island at QSC's yearly Spring Meeting.  Carol Taylor was our guest speaker.  She was great.  I also took a class from her.  I learned to couch fancy yarns and make skinny lines running thru a square for the borders.  It was great fun, but I am pooped.  So, rest today.

Design Wall Monday

Ok, here it is.  I am still working on my Deb K quilt.  More done yea.  All of the paper pieced pieces are finished, just need trimmed.  Need to cut out background piece and sew them together.  Double I will get much done this week.  Getting ready for QSC Spring Meeting on Saturday and a class with Carol Taylor on Sunday.  So I should have something to show next week.  But I digress.  Here is this weeks progress.

As you can see I have all of the star points completed.

Here are the spikes that go between each star point and the flying geese that go around the whole star.  I am getting there, slowly, but there.
You can see more Design Wall Monday's at the Patchwork Times linkup. Just click on the name.
